Giovanni J. Lozano, a 24-year-old Hispanic male, was found shot to death on December 25, 2021, in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Around 10:40 p.m., police discovered Giovanni unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his head in the 3000 block of North Avers Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into Giovanni's death led to the arrest of Santi Castaneda, a 22-year-old male, who was charged with one count of first-degree murder. Castaneda was apprehended in Green Bay, Wisconsin, more than five months after the shooting. According to Cook County prosecutors, Castaneda was attending a gathering with friends on the day of the incident. The group made their way to a home in the 3000 block of North Avers Avenue, where Castaneda was seen on surveillance video tracking vehicles passing through the area. Just after 10:30 p.m., Giovanni's black SUV drove past the location, and Castaneda allegedly raised his arm and began firing shots toward the vehicle. Giovanni was struck in the back of his head and knee, causing his vehicle to crash nearby. The shooting was captured on video, and an acquaintance on the scene identified Castaneda in multiple still photos taken from surveillance cameras.
During a court hearing, a Cook County judge ordered Castaneda to be held without bail. The case against him is ongoing, with further court appearances scheduled. The tragic death of Giovanni J.
