In the early morning hours of August 27, 2009, a dedicated correctional officer's life was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland. Erica Yolanda Carr, a 37-year-old Black female, was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the 1400 block of Kenhill Avenue. The call came in at approximately 6:30 a.m., a time when many in the city were just beginning their day. Carr was rushed to the nearby Johns Hopkins Hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead.
