On September 24, 2022, 33-year-old Darius D. Travis, an African American male from Joliet, Illinois, was fatally shot at Gippers Sports Club and Eatery in Coal City, Illinois. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when multiple gunshots were fired inside the bar, resulting in the deaths of Darius D. Travis and 25-year-old Dameonta Terry-Travis, also from Joliet.
