Sergio Berrios, a 42-year-old man of Puerto Rican descent, tragically lost his life on October 3, 2022, in Waukegan, Illinois. Berrios was found shot multiple times while sitting in a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Chestnut Street. The Waukegan Police Department responded to a call of shots fired just after midnight and discovered Berrios, who appeared to be the driver of the vehicle, deceased at the scene. The investigation into Berrios' death led to significant developments. Jamonte J. Davis, a 24-year-old man from Zion, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Further investigation revealed that Davis had been in communication with William Fillyaw, a 45-year-old man from North Chicago, in the hours leading up to the shooting. Fillyaw, who had been released from prison less than a year prior after serving time for a 2007 murder, was also charged in connection with Berrios' death. Both Davis and Fillyaw faced federal charges for arson of a vehicle and use of arson in furtherance of another felony, as the Dodge Charger used in the crime was later found burned.
