Couriaun L. Atkins, a 23-year-old African American male from Peoria, Illinois, tragically lost his life on October 22, 2022. According to the Peoria County Coroner, Jamie Harwood, Couriaun was shot multiple times in the early hours of that day. The Peoria Police Department responded to two ShotSpotter alerts indicating a total of 16 shots fired in the 2900 block of West Seibold Street around 2:36 a.m. Despite life-saving measures taken by the police, Couriaun was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Couriaun's death revealed that he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The Peoria Police Department has not yet identified any suspects in connection with the shooting. In a related development, Dominicue Linwood, a 26-year-old male, was found guilty of first-degree murder in a separate case involving the death of Jamarion Lee in September 2022. Linwood was also identified as a suspect in the shooting deaths of Couriaun L. Atkins and Julius J. Payton. However, Linwood has only been charged in the case of Jamarion Lee's death. The investigation into Couriaun's murder remains ongoing, with the police continuing to seek leads and gather evidence to bring those responsible to justice.
