Deputy Sheriff Brett C. Dickey, a 30-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on February 13, 1996, in Ellijay, Georgia. Deputy Dickey was serving a warrant when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred during a stand-off, and several officers, including his father-in-law, Chief Deputy of Gilmer County, were present at the scene. Deputy Dickey had been with the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office for four years and was survived by his wife and their 9-month-old son.
