In the early morning hours of March 15, 2014, a tragic event unfolded outside the Blue Swan nightclub in Nashville, Georgia, that would cut short the life of 23-year-old Cornelius Rashawn Miller. Witnesses at the scene reported that a Black male had left the nightclub and shot Miller before fleeing on foot. Emergency services were called, and Miller was transported to South Georgia Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was brought in to assist the Nashville Police Department in the ensuing investigation.
Authorities quickly identified a suspect, Kelvin Brown, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting began. It was revealed that Brown was seen by a witness walking past a car in the nightclub's parking lot holding a handgun. This witness later recounted seeing Brown shoot Cornelius Miller. In the aftermath of the shooting, Brown reportedly contacted an acquaintance, admitting that he had 'killed somebody' and needed to be picked up.
The investigation led law enforcement to a motel in Cecil, Georgia, where Brown was located and arrested in the early morning hours of March 17, 2014. A. 38-caliber bullet was recovered from Miller's body, and although the murder weapon was never found, firearms experts determined the bullet was consistent with being fired from a Smith & Wesson. 357 Sig pistol. Twelve shell casings recovered from the crime scene were also found to be consistent with being fired from the same type of weapon. In August 2016, a Berrien County jury found Kelvin Brown guilty of malice murder in the shooting death of Cornelius Miller.
