In the late hours of March 30, 2014, a violent altercation inside an apartment in Norcross, Georgia, tragically cut short the life of 21-year-old Tevin Saffo. The young African American man was found deceased by police who were responding to a call about a person being shot at the Bristol Court Apartments on Westchase Village Lane. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m., also left another 21-year-old man, Tyler Reeves, critically injured and in need of immediate medical attention at Gwinnett Medical Center.
A third individual involved in the dispute, 28-year-old Talon Dunkentell, sustained only minor injuries that were treated at the scene. As the Gwinnett County police delved into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, their investigation quickly pointed to Dunkentell's involvement. Initially, she was taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault and obstruction. However, as detectives pieced together the events of that fatal night, the severity of the charges against her escalated significantly.
Further investigation led authorities to believe that Dunkentell had fired shots during the altercation. Evidence gathered by the police suggested a clear intent behind her actions, prompting them to upgrade the charges to include murder. Consequently, Talon Dunkentell faced a series of grave accusations, including murder, aggravated assault, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. She was subsequently held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center to await legal proceedings. While drugs and related paraphernalia were discovered at the apartment, investigators later clarified that they did not consider narcotics to be a contributing factor in the deadly shooting. The focus of the case remained on the altercation that led to the tragic death of Tevin Saffo and the serious injury of Tyler Reeves.
