On the evening of July 24, 2014, a tragic and fatal encounter unfolded in Gordon, Georgia. Taurus Javon Lewis, a 37-year-old African American man from Baldwin County, was shot and killed outside a residence at 110 Burney Road. The incident, which took place at approximately 8:15 p.m., left the community in shock and searching for answers.
According to the homeowner, 29-year-old Jeffrey King, the situation began when Lewis approached him with a firearm.
King told authorities that he did not know Lewis and believed he was the target of an imminent robbery. Fearing for his life, King retrieved his own gun from his vehicle and fired multiple shots at Lewis. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Lewis on the ground with several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
