In the early days of 2015, the community of Moultrie, Georgia, was shaken by a violent act that claimed the life of one of its own. On the night of January 6th, Terrell Eugene Hawkins, a 36-year-old male, was found deceased inside a residence at 618 Third Ave. S.W.. The cause of his death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.. The incident, which marked Colquitt County's first homicide of the new year, also left a second victim, 26-year-old Alexis V. Davis, injured from gunfire.. Davis was transported to a medical facility in Macon and was reported to be in stable condition.. The investigation into the double shooting was a joint effort between the Moultrie Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.. Their collaborative work quickly pointed to a suspect, and within a week of the incident, an arrest was made. On January 12, 2015, Ponikarski Green, 32, of Moultrie, was located and apprehended in Broward County, Florida, by the United States Marshall's Service.. Green was subsequently charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault in connection with the death of Hawkins and the shooting of Davis..
Further investigation into the history between the victim and the accused revealed a prior violent encounter. In June of 2006, Terrell Eugene Hawkins, then 28, was a victim in another shooting incident at the Shy Manor Apartments in Moultrie.. In that event, another man, Eddie Sanchez Martin, was killed, and Hawkins sustained a gunshot wound to his arm.. Ponikarski Green, then 23, was also identified as a suspect in this earlier shooting and was charged with murder.. Green was arrested in Pennsylvania months after the 2006 shooting and extradited back to Colquitt County.. Two other individuals, Shedrick Bonner and Brykece Suggs, were also charged in relation to the 2006 incident.. The charges against two of the men in the 2006 case were eventually dropped after a key witness was found deceased from gunshot wounds..
