In a tragic turn of events on the afternoon of March 24, 2016, 26-year-old Kysha Johnson was shot and killed in her Grayson, Georgia, home. The fatal incident unfolded during what police described as a domestic dispute.
The argument that led to the shooting was reportedly over a delayed tax return. Johnson’s stepfather, 42-year-old Bryon Winborne, allegedly became embroiled in a heated exchange with her, believing she was responsible for the delay. The confrontation escalated, culminating in Winborne allegedly shooting Johnson as she was walking away from him. The shooting occurred in the presence of several family members, including Johnson's mother and two young children.
After the shooting, Winborne fled the residence on Pinehurst View Drive but was apprehended by Gwinnett County police within the subdivision a short time later. Kysha Johnson was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Bryon Winborne was arrested and subsequently charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with his stepdaughter's death. He was booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center. During his initial court appearance, he was denied bond.
