On July 7, 2017, Shawn Porter, a 49-year-old male from Waleska, GA, was found dead in his home. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at Porter's residence on Clay Wade Road, where they discovered his body in the rear bedroom. Porter had died from gunshot wounds. Alongside him, the body of 43-year-old Laura Pearson, also from Waleska, was found in the living room, also deceased from a gunshot wound.
