Montez Arlando Watson, a 31-year-old male, vanished on February 5, 2018, after last being seen in Loganville, Georgia. The search for Watson took a grim turn on May 9, 2018, when human remains were discovered buried in the backyard of a home in the neighboring Barrow County.
The body was later identified as that of Montez Watson.

Evidence presented during the trial showed that Watson had been shot in the chest and the back of the head on February 7, 2018, at the Walton County home of his girlfriend. Following the shooting, the bathroom where the incident occurred was cleaned in an attempt to hide any evidence of the crime. Watson's body was then transported to the Barrow County residence of his girlfriend's father, Michael Brent Huff, where it was buried near a shed.

He and his wife, Jennifer Louise Huff, fled their home as authorities began searching their property. Jennifer Huff was later apprehended in North Carolina. Michael Huff eventually surrendered to law enforcement. The investigation led to multiple arrests and serious charges. Michael Brent Huff was charged with murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, concealing the death of another, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Another man, Mark Campbell, was also charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the case. Jennifer Louise Huff faced charges of concealing a death and tampering with evidence.
In September 2022, a Walton County jury found Michael Brent Huff guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, concealing the death of another, and tampering with evidence for his role in the death of Montez Arlando Watson. The conviction brought a measure of justice for Watson and his family after a long and painful ordeal. The case involved the collaborative efforts of the Walton County Sheriff's Office, the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to unravel the tragic and violent end to a young man's life.
