In the quiet days leading up to Christmas, a young man's life was tragically cut short in Jonesboro, Georgia. Iseir George, an 18-year-old male, was home from Albany State University for the holiday break when he was fatally shot on December 21, 2018. The incident occurred outside his family's residence on Broad River Road in Clayton County.
On that fateful evening, George received a phone call summoning him outside. Shortly after, multiple gunshots rang out, and he was discovered in his front yard with two bullet wounds. His father, Alfred Drayton, rushed to his side and heard his son's last words, pleading for help. Despite the immediate efforts to save him, George succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the senseless act led authorities to 24-year-old Dakarai Tolbert. Cellphone records linked a call made to George just before the shooting to a phone belonging to Tolbert's girlfriend, Carina Robertson. Investigators also located an SUV that was seen speeding away from the scene at Robertson's home. The motive for the killing was not immediately made clear, and George's family stated they did not know Tolbert.
Nearly three weeks after the shooting, a fugitive squad tracked Tolbert to a Chuck E. Cheese, where he was with his girlfriend and their children. Authorities were reportedly alerted to his location through a social media post. Tolbert was arrested in an area away from other families and was subsequently charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. He was held in the Clayton County Jail without bond. Carina Robertson was also taken into custody and charged with harboring a fugitive.
