In the late winter of 2019, a tragic and violent series of events unfolded, culminating in the death of 22-year-old Quaniqwa Lee in Pooler, Georgia. Her life was cut short in a targeted shooting that took place in the parking lot of a Sam's Club on February 23, 2019. Lee was shot twice in the head while sitting in a car and succumbed to her injuries the following day, on February 24, 2019, at a local hospital, surrounded by her family.
The search for those responsible for this brazen act
of violence led authorities to two cousins, Deandra Mims, aged 24, and Cierra Mims, aged 25. Investigators believe that prior to the fatal shooting, on February 21, the cousins had gone to a home on Burnt Tree Drive where they believed Lee was located. When they did not find her, they allegedly fired into the residence, injuring a 10-year-old girl inside. The child's injuries were reported as serious but not life-threatening. This earlier incident underscored the determined and dangerous nature of the pursuit that ultimately led to Lee's death.
Following the shooting in Pooler, the Mims cousins fled the scene, prompting a high-speed chase through Chatham County. Their time on the run was short-lived, however. On February 28, 2019, a coordinated effort by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force resulted in their capture in Riverdale, Georgia. The two were taken into custody without incident and were held at the Clayton County jail to await extradition to Chatham County to face charges for their alleged crimes. They were to be held without bond.
