In March of 2023, a 33-year-old man named Terence Cheatham was killed on the 2100 block of Edmondson Avenue in Baltimore. His life was tragically cut short in a homicide that would later see his killer brought to justice.
The man responsible for Mr. Cheatham's death was identified as 47-year-old Ricky Crenshaw. Following an investigation into the murder, Crenshaw was arrested and faced a series of serious charges. In May of the following year, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, use of an assault weapon or magazine, and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
During the sentencing hearing in August 2024, the court heard emotional testimony from Mr. Cheatham's family. In a poignant moment, his 13-year-old son prayed the rosary for the man who had taken his father's life. The judge ultimately handed down a significant sentence to Ricky Crenshaw for his crimes. He received life in prison for the first-degree murder charge, with the first 20 years to be served without the possibility of parole. In addition to the life sentence, he was given a consecutive sentence of 37 years for the various firearm charges, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life behind bars.
