On the evening of April 2, 2022, the life of 51-year-old Daron Ron Roberto Williams, a male resident of Hahira, Georgia, was cut short by gunfire. The fatal incident unfolded within a guest room of the Hahira Inn, situated near the junction of Interstate 75 and Highway 122. At approximately 9:10 p.m., a 911 call reporting the sound of gunshots prompted a response from both the Hahira Police Department and the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office. Upon entering the motel room, they discovered Williams's body. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was subsequently requested to lead the homicide investigation.
In the aftermath of the discovery, investigators quickly zeroed in on a suspect: Davisha Latrice Johnson, a 32-year-old woman who was an acquaintance of Williams for several years. Authorities publicly sought assistance in locating Johnson, for whom they had secured arrest warrants on charges of felony murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. It was noted that she was known to frequent the Valdosta and Quitman areas.
The search for Johnson concluded two days later, on the afternoon of April 4th. In a somewhat unusual turn of events, Johnson facilitated her own capture by asking an acquaintance to call 911 so she could surrender. She was taken into custody without incident on Vallotton Drive in Valdosta. Following her arrest, Johnson was transported to the Lowndes County Jail. Later that year, in August, the Lowndes County Grand Jury handed down an indictment against her, formally charging her with felony murder and aggravated assault with family violence.
