On a Sunday morning in the spring of 2013, violence shattered the quiet of a Northeast Baltimore neighborhood. In the Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello area, on the 1600 block of E. 29th St., 28-year-old Dwight Cook was shot at approximately 6:45 a.m. The early morning attack left him with at least one gunshot wound.
Emergency responders rushed Cook to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where medical staff fought to save his life.
Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead that afternoon on March 31, 2013. At the time, police had not identified a motive for the shooting and had no suspects in custody. The case of Dwight Cook's death remains unresolved, with little public information available in the years that followed regarding any persons of interest or arrests.
