In the late summer of 2022, a tragic event unfolded in the small community of Boston, Georgia, culminating in the death of Andrew Hill. On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, law enforcement from the Thomas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in Boston regarding a possible murder. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Traces of blood in the basement and drag marks leading outside the home hinted at a violent struggle, yet the victim was nowhere to be found.
A witness to the harrowing incident soon came forward, providing a chilling narrative of what had transpired. According to the witness, two men wearing ski masks entered the home and confronted Andrew Hill in the basement. An argument erupted, with one of the assailants demanding to know the whereabouts of his son. Hill's pleas that he was not involved in the man's son's disappearance were met with gunfire. After the first shot, two more followed, sealing Hill's fate. The witness later identified the perpetrators after they removed their masks and issued a threat. Hill's body was discovered the following day in neighboring Brooks County.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on two suspects: 55-year-old Anthony 'Tony' Hires and his 24-year-old son, Anthony 'Seth' Hires II. The motive for this brutal act was believed to be a case of misguided revenge. Tony Hires's son, Andrue 'Trent' Hires, had been missing since July 18, 2022, after fleeing from a traffic stop. The Hireses held the belief that Andrew Hill was somehow responsible for Trent's disappearance or even his death, although authorities stated there was no evidence to support this.
In the wake of the murder, both Tony and Seth Hires were arrested and subsequently charged with murder. Two other relatives, Jeffrey Hiers and Johnny Wayne Hires, faced minor charges related to the incident. The wheels of justice turned, and in January 2024, the father and son duo were convicted of felony murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm. For their roles in the death of Andrew Hill, both Anthony 'Tony' Hires and Anthony 'Seth' Hires II were sentenced to life in prison plus an additional five years. The disappearance of Trent Hires remains an open case.
