On September 16, 2022, a domestic argument between Raymond G. Johnson Jr., a 56-year-old Caucasian male from Adairsville, Georgia, and his stepson escalated into a fatal roadside confrontation. The dispute began at their residence in Calhoun and continued as the two men drove away in separate vehicles. Johnson was followed by his 31-year-old stepson, Rocky James Fair.
The chase came to a tragic end on Buttrum Road in Adairsville, where both men exited their vehicles and exchanged
gunfire. At approximately 6:30 a.m., Johnson placed a 911 call, reporting that he had been shot. Despite being able to call for help, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead by the Floyd County Coroner.
In connection with the shooting, Rocky James Fair was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery, reckless conduct, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was taken into custody and is being held in the Floyd County Jail after being denied bond. The case is being investigated as an incident of domestic violence.
