On December 5, 2022, Jason Fort, a 41-year-old man from Sardis, GA, was found deceased in the doorway of his home on Tom Bargeron Road. The Burke County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting call at approximately 9:15 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Fort's body, which had sustained a fatal gunshot wound under the chin.
