On August 7, 1840, John Motte, a white male, was tragically killed during the Indian Key Massacre in Indian Key, Florida. This event was part of the broader conflict known as the Seminole Wars. The attack occurred in the early hours of the morning when a group of Seminole Indians landed on the island and launched a surprise assault on the residents.
