Nancy Bowlegs was one of the victims of the tragic Jim Jumper massacre, which occurred on February 14 or 15, 1889, in St. Lucie County, Florida. This incident took place at a Seminole Indian camp northeast of Lake Okeechobee, known as Bluefields. Jim Jumper, a biracial Seminole, was the perpetrator of this mass murder, which resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals, including Nancy Bowlegs.
