William T. Strange, who was 31 years old, served as the Chief of Police in Lake City, Florida. On November 27, 1900, he was fatally shot while attempting to make an arrest. The incident occurred when Strange was trying to apprehend a suspect identified as Spencer Williams, described as a "negro desperado." During the arrest attempt, Strange was shot and succumbed to his injuries the following day, November 28, 1900.
