Robert E. Yates, a 22-year-old white male, was a police officer with the Plant City Police Department in Florida. On November 10, 1911, Officer Yates was on patrol near the train depot when he observed a suspicious individual. Upon attempting to question the man, the suspect drew a gun and fled.
