Sylvester Carrier, a 31-year-old resident of Rosewood, Florida, met a tragic end on January 4, 1923, during the infamous Rosewood massacre. This event was a racially motivated attack on the predominantly Black town of Rosewood by a white mob. The violence erupted after a white woman in the nearby town of Sumner falsely accused a Black man of assault. This accusation led to a lynch mob forming and targeting the Black residents of Rosewood.
