John David Patton, a 28-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on July 9, 1977, in Carrabelle, Florida. Officer Patton was serving with the Carrabelle Police Department at the time of his death. He was responding to a domestic disturbance call on CR-67, near Avenue G, when he was fatally shot. As he stepped out of his patrol car, he was struck by a .308 caliber rifle fired by the suspect. The suspect then exited his house and committed suicide immediately after the shooting.
