In the autumn of 2009, a violent encounter on a Baltimore street set in motion a tragedy that would take years to culminate. On September 25, 2009, Gregory Commissiong, a 43-year-old Black male, was shot at 1100 East 25th Street. The wounds he sustained that day began a long and arduous health battle.
For nearly four years, Commissiong lived with the consequences of the shooting.
His struggle ultimately ended on July 6, 2013, when he succumbed to the injuries he had received years earlier. Following his death, the medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. The Baltimore Police Department officially added his case to the city's homicide count on September 4, 2013.
Despite the passage of time between the shooting and his death, investigators have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting of Gregory Commissiong. No arrests have been announced, and his case is considered an unsolved homicide. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motive behind it remain unclear, leaving his family and community without answers or a sense of justice for his untimely death.
