Deputy Sheriff Lonnie C. Coburn, aged 25, tragically lost his life on February 21, 1978, in Brooksville, Florida. On that fateful day, Deputy Coburn confronted two suspects who were wanted in connection with the heinous crimes of rape, kidnapping, and murder of a young woman who was six months pregnant. During the confrontation, the suspects overpowered Deputy Coburn, seized his service weapon, and shot him twice, resulting in his untimely death.
