In the days leading up to Christmas of 1998, 19-year-old Kimberly Ann Riley was navigating life as a young mother to her two sons in Lorain, Ohio. Her family last saw her on December 20, 1998, and at that time, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. However, concern mounted when Kimberly, also known as Kim or Kimmy, failed to appear at her family's Christmas celebration. The last person reported to have seen her was the mother of her boyfriend, Omar Seymore, on December 23. According to Seymore's mother, Kimberly had dropped off her children, stating she was going to a mall in Elyria for some last-minute Christmas shopping, but she never came back to get them. This story raised suspicion with Kimberly's grandmother, who noted that Seymore's mother gave varying accounts of what happened and that the children were left with minimal supplies. Following her failure to return, a closer look at Kimberly's apartment in the 1600 block of Cooper Foster Park Road revealed a disturbing scene. While wrapped Christmas presents sat under the tree and the home was decorated for the holidays, several key items were missing: blankets from the bed, two photo albums containing pictures of her children, and a large plastic trash bin from the kitchen. Crucially, personal necessities like her medication for a blood disorder, her toothbrush, and groceries were all left behind. In stark contrast, nearly all of Omar Seymore's belongings were gone from the apartment. Further raising alarms, Kimberly's orange 1989 Mazda, which had also disappeared, was found abandoned on Diece Street in Cleveland. Her mother received a towing bill for the vehicle on December 31. When the car was recovered, it had been stripped of her possessions, and the driver's seat was adjusted for someone much taller than Kimberly. The investigation into Kimberly's disappearance uncovered grim evidence. Bloodstains were discovered on the passenger side of her recovered car, and more of her blood was found on pieces of cardboard in the trunk five years later. A small amount of blood was also found in the apartment she shared with Seymore. Her mother also found a photograph of Kimberly with the words "die soon" written on it. Omar Seymore, who disappeared around the same time as Kimberly, was located in California in 2004 and arrested on unrelated charges. While he has never been criminally charged in Kimberly's disappearance, a civil judge found him liable for her death and ordered him to pay a significant sum to her mother, a lawsuit he did not contest. Despite the strong suspicion of foul play and the belief by both law enforcement and her family that she is deceased, Kimberly Riley's case officially remains unsolved.
