On the afternoon of April 23, 2014, Cook was involved in a heated argument with Master Brown, 21, which escalated into violence. Witnesses reported that Brown shot Cook during the confrontation.

Less than 24 hours after the shooting, Master Brown was apprehended following an intense car chase and foot pursuit.
