The investigation into Holly's death revealed that Jonathan Peden, although not the gunman, played a crucial role in the crime. Peden supplied the weapon used in the shooting, making him a principal to the crime under Florida law. He was initially arrested on a trespassing charge in 2015, during which he confessed to his involvement in the incident. Peden admitted to giving a gun to a man who intended to rob the dealer from whom Holly was buying drugs. When the dealer was not present, the man fought with Holly over her purse, resulting in the fatal gunshot.
In August 2019, after about an hour and a half of deliberations, a 12-person jury found Jonathan Peden guilty of first-degree murder. Despite not being the shooter, Peden was sentenced to life in prison, as per Florida law for a first-degree murder conviction. The trial brought some closure to Holly's family, who had been seeking justice for years. Holly's sister, Chrystal Braden, expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in the process, highlighting the emotional toll the case had taken on the family.
