Lorenzo Marcus Thomas had accused Javon Deonte Fudge, an 18-year-old African American male, of stealing $90 worth of marijuana from him at gunpoint two weeks prior.
The two agreed to meet and settle the dispute through a fight.
During the confrontation, Lorenzo Marcus Thomas was shot twice by Javon Deonte Fudge. Despite being critically injured, Thomas managed to identify Fudge as the shooter before succumbing to his injuries six hours later at UF Health. A juvenile victim, who was also present at the scene, was wounded twice in the gunfire but survived. The shooter, along with a second suspect, continued to fire at the juvenile victim, who managed to return fire after taking cover.
Javon Deonte Fudge was arrested on August 25, 2015, and charged with second-degree murder. The second suspect, described as a black male in his early 20s with long dreadlocks and a beard, remains at large. The police have possible names for the second suspect but believe that the victims did not know this individual.
