Joshua Rogers, a 27-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on November 25, 2015, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The incident occurred outside Club B.A.M., located on West Broward Boulevard. According to reports, a deputy patrolling the area heard gunshots around 4:20 a.m. and arrived at the scene to find Joshua Rogers lying unconscious in the parking lot.
Despite efforts, Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Rogers and his friends were confronted by members of a local gang as they exited the nightclub. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, during which Awince Lasseur, a 27-year-old male, engaged in a verbal dispute with Rogers that quickly turned violent. Lasseur reportedly beat Rogers until he was unconscious. Dieuphen Joseph, another 27-year-old male, joined in the assault by hitting Rogers repeatedly on the head with a bottle. Peudritto Joseph, aged 32, further escalated the violence by stomping on Rogers' head. The fatal blow came when Whatdly Petit, a 21-year-old male, shot Rogers in the chest, leading to his immediate death.
Following the incident, law enforcement swiftly acted to apprehend the suspects involved. Dieuphen Joseph was arrested in Deerfield Beach, Peudritto Joseph was located in Jacksonville, and Awince Lasseur was found in Plantation. Whatdly Petit was arrested in the Orlando area and extradited to South Florida. All four suspects faced charges related to their involvement in the murder of Joshua Rogers. Lasseur and the Joseph brothers were charged with second-degree murder, while Petit faced a first-degree murder charge for firing the fatal shot.
The case drew significant attention due to the brutal nature of the crime and the swift arrests of the suspects. The Broward Sheriff's Office continued to investigate the incident, seeking additional information and urging anyone with knowledge of the events to come forward. The arrests and subsequent legal proceedings highlighted the community's efforts to address gang-related violence and bring justice to the victim and his family.
