Jerrod Evans, an 18-year-old African American male from Saint Petersburg, Florida, tragically lost his life on November 29, 2015. Jerrod was a student at St. Pete High School and is survived by his daughter, Jazzlyn Evans, his mother, Latasha Summers, and several siblings and grandparents. His untimely death has left a profound impact on his family and community.
On the evening of November 29, 2015, Jerrod Evans was involved in a verbal altercation near Johnny's Food Mart at 1401 16th
St. S. The dispute escalated, and shortly before 7 p.m., Jerrod was struck by a bullet during a drive-by shooting. He was hit in the upper torso and was immediately transported to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Jerrod's murder led to the swift arrest of two suspects. Davonte Scott, an 18-year-old male, was apprehended by the St. Petersburg Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force while attending Bayside High School in Clearwater. Scott was charged with second-degree murder for his role in the shooting. Additionally, Darzaughn Williams, also 18 years old, was identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the drive-by shooting and was arrested the following day.
The arrests of Scott and Williams brought some measure of justice to Jerrod's family, though the pain of his loss remains. The case highlights the devastating impact of gun violence on young lives and the importance of community efforts to prevent such tragedies. Jerrod's death serves as a somber reminder of the need for continued vigilance and action to ensure the safety and well-being of all community members.
