This individual was later identified as George Beato, who was seen returning to the subdivision shortly after Vigo was last seen alive.
The investigation led to the arrest of George Beato, a 36-year-old resident of Davenport, who was charged with first-degree murder and multiple counts of tampering with evidence. Beato's home was searched, and investigators found a gun case, ammunition, and various fraudulent credit cards and personal identification items. Beato initially denied owning any firearms, claiming he had not touched one since his National Guard training in August 2015. However, the evidence found at his home contradicted his statements. Beato also attempted to access surveillance footage from the management office at Island Club West, further raising suspicions.
The case went to trial, and Beato was convicted of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. The trial lasted for two weeks, and Beato was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This was the second trial for Beato, as the first trial resulted in a hung jury.
