Lavardo Fisher, a 13-year-old African American boy from Orlando, Florida, tragically died on February 7, 2016, due to an accidental shooting. Lavardo was visiting friends at a home on Spottswood Drive when the incident occurred. According to reports, two 18-year-old relatives found a gun under a bed while playing video games. During their horseplay, the gun accidentally discharged, striking Lavardo in the head.
He was immediately taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The investigation revealed that the 18-year-old shooter was on a hoverboard and lost his balance, causing the gun to fire. This incident was part of a violent streak in Central Florida, which included multiple shootings and homicides within a short period. Lavardo's death was particularly heartbreaking as he was known for his academic and athletic achievements, being a Pop Warner All-American Scholar and a dedicated football player.
Following the incident, the owner of the gun, 35-year-old Walter Morame, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Morame was not present at the time of the shooting. The Orange County Sheriff's Office conducted a thorough investigation to determine if additional charges should be filed against Morame or the two 18-year-olds involved in the incident.
