On February 27, 2016, 14-year-old Tavaris Rhodes, an African American male, tragically lost his life in Miami Gardens, FL. The incident occurred when Tavaris was at a home on Northwest 172nd Terrace with a friend, also 14 years old, who was showing off a gun. The firearm accidentally discharged, striking Tavaris in the head. He was immediately airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
