Tyree Dawkins, a 19-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on April 6, 2016, in Cocoa, Florida. The incident occurred during a drug deal that escalated into a violent confrontation. Dawkins, along with three other individuals, had planned to rob Derrick Adderly II, a 29-year-old man, of drugs and money. The group arranged to meet Adderly at an affordable living facility on Friday Road to purchase marijuana. However, the situation quickly turned deadly when Delvonte Antonio Rosier, one of Dawkins' accomplices, began shooting. Adderly returned fire, resulting in a chaotic scene where all parties involved fled in different directions.
Dawkins was found critically injured in a wooded area near the scene and was later pronounced dead at Holmes Regional Medical Center. The other individuals involved in the incident also sustained injuries. Adderly suffered a superficial gunshot wound, while two others, who were with Adderly during the attempted drug deal, were seriously injured but not identified by police.
The investigation led to the arrest of several suspects. Delvonte Antonio Rosier, Hakeem Battle, and Jared Brian Harding were charged with attempted armed robbery and second-degree felony murder. Derrick Kevin Adderly II faced charges of attempted sale of cannabis. The police investigation revealed that Dawkins and his accomplices had plotted to rob Adderly, which ultimately led to the fatal exchange of gunfire.
