Juan Ramon Guerrero, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on June 12, 2016, during the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Guerrero was a third-year student at the University of Central Florida and worked as a telemarketer. He was at the nightclub with his boyfriend, Christopher "Drew" Leinonen, who was also killed in the attack. Guerrero had recently come out as gay to his family, who were very accepting of his sexual orientation.
His cousin described him as an amazing person who was like a big brother and preferred staying home to care for his niece and nephew rather than going out to parties.
The Pulse nightclub shooting, which claimed the lives of 49 people, including Guerrero and Leinonen, was the deadliest mass shooting in American history at the time. The shooter, Omar Mateen, opened fire inside the nightclub in the early hours of June 12, 2016. Mateen, who had pledged allegiance to ISIS, was killed by police after a three-hour standoff.
