On July 19, 2016, Joseph Allen, a 22-year-old African American male from Palmetto, Florida, was found deceased near Old Tampa Road in Parrish. Investigators determined that he had been fatally shot earlier that day at a residence located on the 2600 block of 15th Avenue East in Palmetto.
