In the Brooklyn neighborhood of South Baltimore, a community was shaken by the violent death of 14-year-old Tywaun Short, a Black male, on the evening of April 8, 2015. The teenager was caught in a hail of bullets in the 4100 block of Audrey Avenue in what was reported as a double shooting. Another individual, a 28-year-old man, was also shot and wounded in the incident.
Emergency services responded to the scene and both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Tywaun Short succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The 28-year-old victim was treated for his injuries.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Baltimore police homicide detectives launched an investigation into the teen's death. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the senseless act of violence. A vigil was held where family, friends, and community members gathered to mourn the young life that had been cut short, sharing prayers and memories of Tywaun.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the pleas for information from the community, no suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been made in the years following Tywaun Short's murder. The case remains unsolved, a painful and unanswered question for a grieving family and a community still searching for justice.
