David Brown, a 33-year-old resident of Oldsmar, Florida, tragically lost his life on February 15, 2017. The incident occurred at Hennessy's Bar and Grill located at 127 Forest Lakes Boulevard in Oldsmar. Brown, who was an employee at the bar, was found inside the establishment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office quickly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The investigation revealed that the suspect, 43-year-old Brian Mytych, was also present at the scene. Mytych, a former police officer from Michigan, admitted to deputies that he had shot Brown. The motive for the shooting was traced back to an altercation that had occurred between the two men on February 6, 2017. During that earlier incident, Mytych had been issued a trespass warning and was arrested for disorderly intoxication after refusing to leave the bar. Witnesses reported that Mytych returned to the bar in the early hours of February 15, 2017, and after being asked to leave again, he came back with a handgun and shot Brown multiple times.
Following the shooting, Mytych instructed the patrons in the bar to leave and then called 911 to report the incident himself. He was taken into custody without incident and a .45 caliber handgun was recovered from the scene. Mytych was subsequently charged with one count of first-degree murder and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail. The case against Mytych proceeded through the legal system, with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office continuing to investigate the details surrounding the tragic event.
