In May of 2015, a tragic event unfolded in Baltimore, Maryland, leading to the death of 31-year-old Jennifer Denell Jeffery. On May 28, 2015, following a call for assistance, Baltimore Police discovered Jeffery and her seven-year-old son deceased in their home. The case was a difficult one for investigators, with veteran homicide detectives finding the scene particularly challenging. For a time, the case grew cold with few leads and no immediate suspects.
The investigation eventually revealed a sinister plot born out of a drug-related robbery. Andre Ricardo Briscoe, also known as “Poo,” and his romantic partner, Kiara Haynes, conspired to rob Jeffery, a long-time friend of Haynes, of heroin. On May 25, 2015, Briscoe traveled to Haynes's home and detailed his plan to not only rob Jeffery but also to kill her. Haynes actively aided Briscoe by helping him obtain a firearm for the planned robbery and murder. She contacted an incarcerated relative to borrow a gun, promising a share of the stolen drugs as payment.
The co-defendant had made his intentions clear to Haynes, stating that he would also kill Jeffery’s young child if he was present during the robbery. Tragically, Briscoe carried out this brutal plan, shooting Jeffery multiple times in her wrist, shoulder, chest, and the back of her head. Her seven-year-old son was also killed, shot multiple times in the head while in his bed. After the murders, Briscoe returned to Haynes's apartment, confirmed the deaths, and gave her a portion of the stolen heroin. Haynes then returned the murder weapon and the heroin to the inmate's relative as agreed. For years, Haynes lied to investigators about her involvement, obstructing the path to justice.
Eventually, the investigation led to the arrests of both Briscoe and Haynes. Kiara Haynes pleaded guilty to two counts of aiding and abetting the use and discharge of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime and a crime of violence, resulting in the deaths of Jennifer Jeffery and her son. She was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. Andre Ricardo Briscoe was convicted on multiple charges, including federal drug distribution, use of a firearm to commit murder in relation to drug trafficking crimes, and killing a witness. On June 8, 2022, after a 12-day jury trial, he was sentenced to life in federal prison.
