Dr. Nancy Van Vessem, a 61-year-old Caucasian woman, tragically lost her life on November 2, 2018, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was one of the victims of a mass shooting that took place at a yoga studio. The perpetrator, Scott Paul Beierle, a 40-year-old man with a history of misogynistic behavior, entered the Hot Yoga studio and opened fire, killing Dr. Van Vessem and a 21-year-old Florida State University student, Maura Binkley. Beierle also injured five others before taking his own life.
