Terry Strawn, a 58-year-old Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy, used his service weapon to fatally shoot his wife, Theresa Strawn, 54, and their 6-year-old granddaughter, Londyn Strawn, at their home in Plant City. He then proceeded to Courtney's residence, where he shot and killed her.
Following these horrific acts, Terry Strawn drove to Plant City High School and took his own life in front of three fellow deputies who had arrived at the scene and tried to dissuade him from committing suicide.
The incident unfolded early in the morning when Terry Strawn radioed his department to confess to the murders. He provided the addresses of the crime scenes and expressed his intention to end his own life. Despite the efforts of a supervisor and other deputies to calm him and offer alternative solutions, Strawn carried out his plan. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Chad Chronister, conducted an investigation into the incident. Sheriff Chronister revealed that Terry Strawn had been with the department since 1991 and had retired two years prior, only to be rehired as a school resource officer at Valrico Elementary School, where his granddaughter Londyn was a student. Strawn had recently been informed that he would be hired back permanently, news that he had reportedly been excited about. The investigation highlighted that Strawn had been an exemplary employee with no prior indications of behavioral problems.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Sheriff's Office provided grief counselors for both the department and Valrico Elementary School.
