Jafet Padin Rodriguez, a 33-year-old Hispanic male from Ocala, Florida, was found dead on August 11, 2019, in Morriston, FL. His body was discovered on the side of the road in southeastern Levy County. Earlier that night, Rodriguez had been reported missing by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, and his vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames in Marion County.
The investigation revealed that Rodriguez was lured to the Marion County home of Kesia Moraima Mundo-Munoz, where he was beaten. He was then placed inside his own vehicle and driven to Morriston, where he was shot to death. The perpetrators subsequently torched and abandoned his vehicle. The motive behind the murder was believed to be related to a misunderstanding involving text messages and a suspected love triangle, although it was later determined that Rodriguez was not involved in the situation.
Following a lengthy investigation, four individuals were arrested and charged in connection with Rodriguez's murder. Omar Alexis Rodriguez-Ortiz, 43, was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree premeditated murder and received an additional 30-year sentence for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Christian Cardona Cirilo, 32, was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation for second-degree murder. Jesse Torres, 36, and Kesia Moraima Mundo-Munoz, 41, were both charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Torres received a 20-year prison sentence, while Mundo-Munoz was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The case was extensively investigated by the Levy County Sheriff's Office, the Marion County Sheriff's Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The collaborative efforts of these agencies led to the successful identification and prosecution of the individuals responsible for the brutal murder of Jafet Padin Rodriguez.
