Jacob Ryan Knight, a 24-year-old resident of Archer, Florida, tragically passed away on October 21, 2019. Jacob was known for his vibrant personality and love for playing the guitar. He worked in the restaurant industry and was cherished by his family and friends. His sudden death left a deep void in the lives of those who knew him.

The events leading to Jacob's death began when he borrowed a vehicle belonging to James Dwight Edwards, his mother's fiancé. On the evening of October 21, Jacob took the car to a local store but was involved in a hit-and-run accident, returning the vehicle to Edwards' home with significant damage. This incident sparked a heated argument between Jacob and Edwards. During the confrontation, Edwards, a registered nurse, shot Jacob once in the chest. Despite being a medical professional, Edwards did not attempt to render aid to Jacob, who succumbed to his injuries within minutes.

Following the incident, Edwards was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was taken into custody by the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and held at the Alachua County Jail with a bond set at $1 million. The case drew significant attention due to the familial relationship between the victim and the suspect, as well as the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

The investigation revealed that the argument over the damaged vehicle escalated quickly, leading to the fatal shooting. Edwards' failure to provide medical assistance, despite his professional background, was a critical point in the case. The legal proceedings focused on the nature of the altercation and Edwards' actions during and after the shooting. The community of Archer was left in shock, grappling with the loss of a young life and the complexities of the case that unfolded in their midst.
