Joshua D. Goodman, a 25-year-old male, was tragically killed on May 11, 2020, in Daytona Beach, Florida. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Curaleaf store on 910 W. International Speedway Blvd. Goodman, who was of Casselberry, suffered three gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at Halifax Health Medical Center. Surveillance footage captured the shooting, showing two men approaching Goodman and opening fire.
The suspects were later identified as Willie Walker, 29, and Andrew Burgman, 36, both from Orlando.
The investigation revealed that Walker and Burgman had driven from Orlando to Daytona Beach with the intention of selling drugs. They encountered Goodman, who flagged them down and got into their car. According to the suspects, Goodman wanted a product they did not have, leading to a tense situation. Walker and Burgman claimed that Goodman had a knife in his backpack, which made them fearful. They drove to the Curaleaf parking lot, where the confrontation escalated, resulting in Goodman being shot.
Following the shooting, Walker and Burgman fled the scene. The next day, they were involved in a car crash in Orlando that resulted in the death of a 73-year-old woman. Both men were arrested at the scene of the crash. Walker was later convicted of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery with a firearm. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison, along with an additional 15 years for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Burgman was also convicted of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, receiving a mandatory life sentence for the murder charge and 30 years for the robbery charge.
The case highlighted the dangers of drug-related activities and the tragic consequences that can arise from such encounters. Both Walker and Burgman had prior felony convictions, and their actions on the night of May 11, 2020, led to the loss of a young life and severe legal repercussions for themselves.
