Jeannairy "Jeannie" Dominguez, a 25-year-old mother from Lakeland, Florida, tragically lost her life on July 19, 2020. She was shot and killed in her home on Monroe Street, with her three young children present. The Lakeland Police Department responded to a call about shots fired just before 9:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Dominguez dead at the scene, having been shot 11 times through the front door of her home.
Her children, all under the age of eight, were unharmed but witnessed the horrific event. The eldest child, an eight-year-old girl, called her grandmother via FaceTime immediately after the shooting, showing her mother’s lifeless body.
The investigation into Dominguez's death revealed that she was pregnant at the time of her murder. The case took a significant turn when Jacarie Dovontis Moore, Dominguez's estranged boyfriend, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Moore, 22, was also charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and three counts of child abuse. According to police reports, Moore had returned home to find his house broken into and suspected Dominguez's involvement, although no evidence supported this claim. Moore, along with his roommate Rodrigo Guzman, drove to Dominguez's residence, where Moore fired the fatal shots through the front door.
Further developments in the case led to the indictment of a second suspect, Johnny Robertson Mackey III. A Polk County grand jury charged Mackey with first-degree murder in the deaths of Dominguez and her unborn child. Mackey, who was 18 at the time, was taken into custody and remains in jail without bail. The investigation revealed that Mackey and Moore had gone to Dominguez's house together, with Mackey allegedly firing the shots that killed her. Moore's arrest affidavit detailed how he and Mackey approached Dominguez's door, and Mackey began shooting after becoming angry for unknown reasons.
